Amidst the Storm

from $399.00

"Amidst the Storm" draws inspiration from a visit to the Needles District in Canyonlands National Park. During my trip, afternoon rainstorms often rolled across the rugged landscape. One evening, as a powerful storm approached, I decided to venture ahead of the storm to photograph the unfolding drama. Positioned outside the park near Six Shooter Peak, I watched as the storm unleashed a curtain of rain over the valley beneath a dramatic, fiery sunset. The sky was a mesmerizing blend of dark blue and purple clouds, illuminated by a vivid orange glow, creating a surreal and awe-inspiring scene. The breathtaking intensity of the moment compelled me to capture it on canvas.

Painted in July 2025, “Amidst the Storm” depicts a desert valley framed by mesas, two peaks rising in the center. Storm clouds spill rain into the landscape, illuminated by the setting sun. Executed in oil, the painting features bold hues of blue, purple, orange, and teal, highlighting the powerful moment in nature’s theater.
